What Should I Do After a Drunk Driving Arrest in Michigan?

drunk driving attorney Ann Arbor

If you’ve been arrested for a DUI, you’re going to want to do three things:

1.     Make a diary of all events that occurred leading up to and including your arrest.

2.     Have the paperwork the police officer gave you in-hand when you call an attorney. There’s important information on that document that you’ll need to relay to your attorney.

3.     Call Dan Geherin, a drunk driving attorney in Ann Arbor, immediately after an arrest. Waiting for a court date can result in loss of important evidence and sometimes a warrant for your arrest.

Pulled Over for Drunk Driving in Michigan? Geherin Law Group Can Help You!

criminal defense attorney Ann Arbor

Ever been pulled over for drunk driving?

What can you expect?

First, the police will ask many questions about what you’ve consumed and when.  They’ll almost never read you Miranda rights----because you’re technically not in custody at that point.  If they notice objective signs of alcohol or drug use (bloodshot eyes, slurred search, confusion), they’ll ask you to step out of your car to begin a series of tests.

Learn more about the series of tests here.

If you have questions about what to expect (or do) following an arrest, you should consult an experienced and specialized OWI/DUI defense attorney.

If you or someone you know has been charged with DUI  in Washtenaw County or Southeastern Michigan, contact Dan Geherin today to answer your legal questions regarding drunk driving attorney in Ann Arbor or the surrounding areas.  (734) 263-2780

Protect You and Your Loved Ones After a OWI/DUI Arrest

drunk driving defense attorney Ann Arbor

In Michigan, a first offense OWI is a crime—not just a traffic offense.  It’s a misdemeanor, carrying up to 93 days in jail upon a conviction. There are several judges in Michigan who impose jail time on a first offense, even when you have no priors, no accident, and no aggravating factors. For higher blood alcohol arrests (called “High BAC” or “Superdrunk”), the law allows for up to 180 days in jail.
