MCL 712A.18E is the Michigan Statute governing Juvenile Adjudication Expungements. In many respects, the process is similar to Adult Conviction Expungements, although the waiting period is considerably shorter (1 year after termination of court jurisdiction).
Early in 2021, Governor Whitmer signed into law the Clean Slate for Kids Program that allows a fresh start for youth exiting the juvenile justice system. Clean Slate for Kids reforms Michigan’s juvenile criminal justice laws to seal juvenile court records from public view and create a process to automatically expunge juvenile records for those who don’t commit future offenses.
